Herbal cosmetics

If you want to take care of your skin in a natural way – use medicinal plants in cosmetics. Proprietary skin care herbs can help promote health and beauty. Plant extracts in cosmetic products are becoming more and more popular. Even official medicine is increasingly relying on medicinal plants as an aid in the treatment of various ailments.

Additional Information! The easiest way to get organic herbs is to grow your own beauty garden. When we collect our own plants, we know how they are grown.

The stimulating properties of aromatic plants have been known since ancient times. They can soothe and heal us from within, and in many cases, these same plants treat skin conditions and leave the skin feeling fresh and hydrated.

Depending on the plant, they can be found in flower petals, leaves, bark, roots, or stems. They can be safely used at home. These properties appear in the form of flavonoids, tannins, mucus, antioxidants, resins, acids, proteins and volatile oils.

Growing skin care plants in the garden

Skin care herbs can be planted together, especially if they like the same types of soil. Thyme, rosemary, and lavender grow best in well-drained soil. Melissa, parsley, and mint prefer wetter, more fertile soils, and they will also grow well together.

Herbs for skin care

Sage is a fairly hardy plant and grows in a wide variety of soils, even dry, barren, and rocky ones. It grows best in sandy, calcareous soils with very good drainage that warm up in early spring. Calendula will sprout in any type of soil.

Chamomile, with unique beneficial properties, grows in nature, but it can be grown in the garden. An undemanding herbaceous plant, it is extremely easy to grow.

Lemon verbena prefers rich, loamy soil and frequent watering. Full sun is best for this herb.

Making herbal extracts at home

Herbs for skin care are eaten. Thyme, rosemary, sage, calendula and others are edible and often used in food preparations. This is one of the easiest ways to get useful substances in the body.

Healing herbs can be used for various skin diseases. Some soothe irritated skin, others moisturize it, and still others treat acne.

Plant material is added to oil, water, or alcohol to make ingredients for use in beauty recipes.

The infusion or decoction after cooling can be used to make skin creams or as lotions and rinses.

Herbal infusion

Herbal water contains natural antioxidants, vitamins and emollients that are applied to the skin.

Tinctures are the best way to extract the full range of herbal chemicals. They usually use alcohol as the liquid. This is not very pleasant for the skin, it dries it. Add them to skin care recipes such as creams and tonics. Use tinctures diluted with distilled water as skin tonics, to disinfect acne and minor cuts.

Herbal infused oils

To extract skin-friendly properties from plants – prepare an oil infused with herbs. Herbs and flowers are infused in olive oil, sweet almond oil, sunflower oil, etc. It is relatively easy to make and use directly on the skin or as an ingredient in daily skin care.

Herbal oil

The easiest and most common way to prepare herbal oil is to infuse at room temperature, in a place protected from ultraviolet radiation. This method is suitable for all dry herbs for skin care. You can mix the oil with one or more herbs. The oil, which has healing properties for the skin, will be ready in two to three weeks. Garden plants that can be added to the oil:

  • calendula (flower);
  • chamomile (flower);
  • comfrey (leaf);
  • lavender (flowers);
  • lemon balm (leaves);
  • rosemary (leaf);
  • yarrow (leaf);
  • rose (petals).

Using fresh herbs in the bath will improve the condition of the skin or soothe it if it suffers from rashes, burns, or lack of moisture.

Dried, crushed beauty herbs can be added directly to the beauty products you already have.

Note! To create safe homemade herbal remedies, you must first learn how to conserve plants and produce foods that won’t go bad.

After harvesting, medicinal plants are not left in direct sunlight. They are loosely tied into a bun and hung in a dry, shady and well-ventilated place.

Before using an herb or plant for medicinal or cosmetic purposes, consult your doctor or cosmetologist.
