Beautiful garden in front of the house

Those who have their own private home want to have a beautiful garden – an ideal place to relax. Full of flowers in the spring and green in the summer, it’s a great place for a barbecue or a party with friends. However, the space in front of the house requires appropriate arrangement, pleasing to the eye.

Arrangement of the garden in front of the house

What function should our front garden serve: should it just be a decoration or perhaps a place to spend time with the family? Do we want to grow fruit in it? Do we have enough time to take care of it, or should it be a typical hobbyist garden that doesn’t require much effort or time?

Note! It is worth thinking through and carefully planning all the elements: the location of the paths, the choice of plants, appropriate lighting, furniture and decorations. These and other questions will determine what our front landscaping project will ultimately look like.

What plants should I plant in the front garden?

The garden in front of the house can please the eye and greet guests with its beauty. It can be covered not only with grass, there we can plant flowers, fruit trees, ornamental shrubs, and designate a place for entertainment and relaxation.

Choosing plants is just one of the first steps. Their placement in a small garden is important. It is necessary to plan flower beds in accordance with the soil requirements of individual flowers or shrubs. Fast-growing plants are planted so that they do not overshadow vegetation that takes longer to grow. Plants that tolerate shade are planted where they receive less sun.

Additional Information! It is important to know what to plant so that the space looks attractive all year round, and the landscape delights with the changing colors and shapes of flowers. It is best to choose evergreen species and those that retain their leaves as long as possible, such as various types of conifers.

It’s a good idea to plant flowers nearby so that when some fade, others begin to bloom to replace them from spring until late autumn. In spring, the garden is usually decorated with pansies and daisies. In summer they are replaced by geraniums, surfias and begonias. Autumn is the time for heather.

For a front garden with different flowering periods, periwinkles, asters, alstroemeria, gladioli are suitable and other impressive ornamental perennials include peonies, daylilies, purple coneflower and phlox. It is worth creating flower arrangements and planting them in decorative pots.

I select the number and height of plants in the front garden arrangement so as not to overload the space with too many of them. They should also not cover the house excessively, including windows.

Another interesting effect is achieved by planting taller and shorter plants next to each other, with different structure and shape of leaves. It is worth repeating such a motif in several places, which will give integrity to the front garden.

Planting taller and shorter plants side by side

Decorative shrubs in front of the house create a basis against which decorative perennials and flowers will look impressive: meadowsweet, lilac, barberry, roses, hydrangeas and rhododendrons. Evergreen shrubs include dwarf pines, junipers and boxwoods.

Most often, a lawn is installed in the front garden, and it requires even more care. Fertilizer, watering and pruning are the basis for care. It will create a green background for bright flower beds and flower beds.

Garden ideas: different styles

Choosing the right garden style is quite a difficult task. Each style is beautiful in its own way. It is dominated by certain types of plants and contains characteristic elements of small garden architecture.

For a garden to look good, it must be made in the same style: in harmony with the environment, facade and even the interior of the house. How to achieve the effect of harmony between home and garden? A good idea is to use the same materials, a similar color scheme that dominates the facade of the house. When building a walkway, the same bricks that are used outside the house are used.

The choice of garden style determines how the plants are planted. There are many styles to choose from such as French, Country or English. Which one we choose depends not only on our preferences, but, above all, on the appearance of the entire environment.

Arrangement of a garden in country style. This is a popular style in recent years, used mainly by home owners in rural areas. Simplicity and connection with the environment dominate here: lots of bright flowers, as well as bushes, trees and grass, familiar to us from the countryside

A low fence will perfectly complement the garden decor, and barrels, watering cans, clay pots and jugs can become decorative accessories.

English style garden design is perfect for irregularly shaped areas. An artfully designed garden in the English style is one of the most charming and romantic types of garden plots. It has a relaxed and natural look, reminiscent of wild meadows.

Its distinctive features are a variety of plantings and carefully arranged alleys and paths. This is an excellent choice for people who value a calm atmosphere, harmony with nature and the beauty of delicate and lush plant compositions.

French garden style is a carefully framed space characterized by elegance, sophistication and attention to detail. One of its key elements is the immaculately trimmed hedges and carefully planned flower beds adjacent to the manicured lawn.

The greenery is enriched with elements of garden architecture: benches, ponds, fountains, decorated with sculptures.

A Japanese-style garden, although well thought out, should look as if nature created it itself. There are many types of Japanese style gardens. All of them are characterized by simplicity, a reminder of nature and elegance.

Characteristic elements here are light gravel paths and plants that create a symmetrical composition. In such a garden, aesthetics, harmony and peace are important, which is achieved by combining stones with moving water and green plants.

Arranging a garden in a modern style  is often preferred by owners of small properties located on the outskirts of the city. It stands out for its simplicity and minimalism. The bushes in such a garden will be beautifully and evenly trimmed, and the flower beds will be well planned.

If we can’t decide on a garden style, we can create a green corner that doesn’t particularly represent a particular style. It can look interesting and attractive, and most importantly, it will be a garden that reflects our taste and our work.

Layout of paths on a personal plot

When arranging the garden in front of the house, do not forget about the paths. Here it is worth thinking about their plan and implementation. For their construction, durable materials are chosen that are easy to clean and do not require additional impregnation, for example, paving stones, granite, concrete or clinker bricks.

Path leading to the front door

Note! The main path leading to the front door must be of an appropriate width – at least 1.5 meters, so that two people can easily walk along it. Also, the remaining paths should be wide enough so that they can be easily navigated without the risk of damaging nearby trees and bushes.

What should I plant along the paths in my dacha to make it beautiful? Along the edges of paths it is worth planting smaller plants, such as asters, sedums, rosemary and thyme. In turn, undemanding and at the same time very decorative species are perfect at the gate of the house: violets, periwinkles, ivy, bergenia, geranium and some types of asters. It is necessary to choose flowers, trees and shrubs that will look beautiful and at the same time be easy to care for.

Garden furniture and additional elements

Organizing a place to relax is also crucial. No less important parts of the garden composition will be correctly selected and arranged garden furniture and other decorative elements: pergolas, trellises or garden trellises. Such additional structures will give the garden a more interesting character.

A simple wooden bench will certainly look good at the entrance to the property, especially if the garden is designed in a rustic style. If you have enough space, you can consider a garden set consisting of a table and chairs or sofas. Garden furniture, such as rattan or aluminum, is especially suitable.

Garden lighting is also an important aspect of front garden design. You can choose lighting for practical use or one that will serve primarily as decoration. Lights along a path are a proven way to make a decorative and impressive addition. Garden lighting can highlight beautiful plants in the evening and at night.

If we want to make the front garden even more attractive, it is worth thinking about different types of decorative elements. If we have more space, a small fountain or sculpture could be an interesting solution. Other, more common and cheaper decorative elements include, for example, decorative flower pots.

The front garden is the area in front of the house; it is here that the path leading to the house and the access road that greets arriving guests are located. Therefore, it is worth taking care of its proper design and maintenance. Constant care is necessary to ensure that the front garden always looks beautiful and well-groomed.
